Does insurance really pay for damages?

If you have the minimum requirements, then yes - if the damage is storm-related and covered under your policy.

In North Carolina, most homeowner’s insurance policies cover sudden and accidental damage caused by events like hail, wind, fallen trees, or lightning. If your roof is damaged due to one of these covered perils, your insurance company is legally obligated to pay for repairs or replacement - minus your deductible.

Here’s the key:

  • The damage must be clearly documented

  • It must fall within your policy coverage window

  • The roof must have been in good condition before the storm

At Paramount Roofing Systems, we specialize in working with insurance companies. We know how to document the damage properly, meet with your adjuster, and make sure nothing is missed - so you get what you’re entitled to under your policy.

How do I know if my roof has storm damage?

Signs of storm damage include missing or lifted shingles, granule loss, leaks, water stains on ceilings, or dented metal components. Even if there’s no visible damage from the ground, a professional inspection is the safest way to assess your roof - especially after hail or high winds.

How long does a roof replacement typically take?

Most roof replacements in North Carolina take 1–2 days, depending on size, materials, and weather conditions. 95% of our roof projects are completed in a day. We aim for minimal disruption and clean up thoroughly afterward.

Will my homeowner’s insurance cover a new roof?

It depends on the cause of the damage. Most NC homeowner policies cover damage from storms, wind, hail, or fallen trees, as long as it's sudden and not due to neglect or age. We can help review your policy and guide you through the claims process.

Who handles the insurance claim process?

We regularly assist homeowners by documenting roof damage, meeting with insurance adjusters on-site, and making sure nothing is overlooked. Our experience ensures you're fairly represented and not left underpaid.

What if my insurance claim was denied?

You’re not out of options. Denials can often be appealed, especially if there’s clear evidence of storm damage. We offer second opinions and can help you navigate re-inspections or disputes with your insurer.

How long do i have to file a roof insurance claim in North Carolina?

Most insurance companies allow up to 3 years maximum from the date of damage to file a claim - but every policy is different, and there are exclusion to this. If you suspect damage from a recent storm, don’t delay. We’ll inspect your roof and help determine if you qualify for a claim.

Should I get a roof inspection before buying or selling a home?

Yes! Roof issues are one of the top deal-breakers in NC home sales. An inspection by a local roofing professional like us helps identify hidden damage and ensures smooth negotiations - potentially saving thousands during closing.

How often should I have my roof inspected?

In North Carolina, we recommend at least once a year - plus after any major storms. Regular inspections extend the life of your roof and catch issues before they turn costly.

Do you offer financing for roof replacements?

Yes, we offer financing options for qualified homeowners to make roof repairs or replacements more manageable if insurance isn't an option for you. Ask us for more details during your free inspection.

Will my insurance premiums go up if I file a roof claim?

In most cases, storm-related roof damage is considered an “Act of God”, which means it's outside of your control. In North Carolina, insurance companies generally cannot raise your premiums for a single weather-related claim.

However, if your area experiences widespread storm damage, premiums may increase across the board for all policyholders, regardless of whether you file a claim or not.

That’s why it often makes more sense to take advantage of your policy and let your insurance help cover storm-related roof repairs or replacement. We’re here to help you understand your policy and guide you through the process.

What’s the process like for getting my roof fixed through insurance with Paramount Roofing Systems?

We make the insurance process as stress-free as possible. Here’s how it works with us:

  1. Free Roof Inspection
We come out and inspect your roof for storm damage, free of charge. We document everything with detailed photos and walk you through what we find.

  2. File Your Insurance Claim
If we find qualifying damage, we help you initiate a claim with your insurance company. You’ll get a claim number and a scheduled adjuster appointment.

  3. Adjuster Meeting
We meet with your insurance adjuster on-site to ensure no damage is overlooked. Having us there as your representative helps maximize your chances of a fair and accurate claim.

  4. Approval & Paperwork
Once your claim is approved, your insurance will send a breakdown of what they’re covering. We review it with you, make sure it’s complete, and finalize your material selections.

  5. Roof Replacement or Repairs
We schedule the work and our team takes care of everything.

  6. Final Inspection & Insurance Supplement (if needed)
We do a quality check and submit any necessary supplements to your insurance for items they may have missed initially.

  7. You Pay Your Deductible. That’s It
You’re only responsible for your deductible and any upgrades you choose.

Does insurance cover the cost of replacing OSB boards (roof decking)?

In most cases, no.

Insurance policies typically only cover direct storm-related damage, not costs associated with bringing your roof up to current building code - which includes replacing or upgrading OSB (roof decking).

However, if the adjuster notes that some decking is damaged as a result of the storm, they may cover those specific sections. Any additional replacement needed due to age, rot, or code requirements is usually the homeowner’s responsibility.

At Paramount Roofing Systems, we’ll clearly explain what’s covered, what’s not, and provide upfront pricing so there are no surprises.

What should I expect during my roof inspection with Paramount Roofing Systems?

Here's what happens when you book a free inspection with us:

  1. On-Time Arrival
One of our trained project managers will show up on time in a clearly marked Paramount Roofing Systems truck, ready to assess your roof with professionalism and care.

  2. Full Exterior Walkthrough
We start with a full walkaround of your property to check for visible signs of damage - missing shingles, dented gutters, damaged flashing, or any signs of storm impact.

  3. Thorough Roof Inspection
We climb on the roof (safely and professionally) to inspect for hail hits, wind lift, soft spots, granule loss, and any other signs of damage that aren’t visible from the ground.

  4. Photo Documentation
We document everything we find with detailed photos and videos. You’ll get to see exactly what we see, no guesswork, no vague answers.

  5. Inspection Summary & Recommendations
After the inspection, we’ll walk you through what we found, what it means, and whether it makes sense to file an insurance claim or consider a repair or replacement.

  6. No Pressure, Just Clarity
Our goal is to help you make an informed decision. We’re here to provide expert insight, not push you into anything you’re not ready for.

What counts as roof damage?

Roof damage refers to any physical harm that affects the performance, safety, or lifespan of your roofing system. In insurance terms, “damage” typically means sudden and accidental issues, especially from storms, wind, hail, or falling debris.

Here are common types of roof damage:

  • Hail hits that bruise or crack shingles

  • Wind uplift that loosens, bends, or removes shingles

  • Granule loss, exposing the shingle’s fiberglass layer

  • Leaks or water stains on ceilings and walls

  • Dented flashing, vents, or gutters from hail

  • Soft spots or sagging areas in the decking

  • Creased or torn shingles from high winds

Even if it’s not visible from the ground, this kind of damage can weaken your roof’s integrity and lead to bigger problems if left untreated. That’s why a professional inspection is the only way to truly know if your roof has been compromised.

Will you absorb or eat my deductible?

No!

It is illegal in North Carolina (and most states) for a contractor to waive, absorb, or "eat" your insurance deductible. Doing so is considered insurance fraud, and it can put both the homeowner and the contractor at risk of serious penalties - even voiding your insurance policy.

At Paramount Roofing Systems, we operate with integrity and transparency. We’ll work with your insurance company to ensure you’re paid fairly for storm-related damage, and we offer financing options if covering your deductible is a concern.

Do I need to call my insurance before getting a roof inspection?

Nope, you should call us first.

There’s no need to involve your insurance company until you know there’s actual damage. At Paramount Roofing Systems, we offer free, no-obligation roof inspections to determine if a claim is truly necessary.

Here’s why it’s smart to start with us:

  • Not all damage qualifies for a claim, and you don’t want to file one unnecessarily.

  • Once a claim is filed, it goes on your record, even if no payout is made.

  • We’ll document any storm-related damage and help you decide if filing a claim makes sense.

If we do find qualifying damage, we’ll guide you through the process and even meet with your adjuster to advocate for you.

Do I have to be home during the roof install?

No, you don’t have to be home, but you're welcome to be.

Most homeowners go about their day while we handle the installation. Our crews are fully insured, respectful of your property, and overseen by a dedicated project manager who ensures everything goes smoothly.

Here’s what to expect if you’re away:

  • We’ll keep you updated with photos, videos, and progress texts

  • We protect landscaping, clean up thoroughly, and perform a final walkaround

  • Your property will be just as clean as when we arrived - only with a brand-new roof on top

If you have pets, work from home, or just want a heads-up on noise and timing, we always coordinate in advance so there'll be no surprises. Your comfort and trust are our priority.

What do I need to do to get ready for my new roof day?

Here are a few simple steps to help make roof day smooth and stress-free:

Inside Your Home:

  • Take down fragile wall decor (especially on upper floors or ceilings) - roofing can cause vibrations.

  • Secure valuables or anything that might fall from shelves due to noise or movement.

Outside Your Home:

  • Move vehicles out of the driveway to protect them from falling debris and give the crew access.

  • Preferably clear patio furniture, grills, or toys from around your home to keep everything safe.

  • Mow the lawn (if possible) - it helps with the magnet sweep for nails during cleanup.

  • Let neighbors know if you think the noise might be disruptive.

Pets & Kids:

  • Roofing can be loud, so consider keeping pets and small children indoors or arranging for them to be away from home during installation if they’re sensitive to noise.

We’ll Take It From There:

Our team will handle the rest - set up, protection tarps, cleanup, and final inspection. You’ll be kept in the loop with progress updates throughout the day.

Do you clean up all the nails after the job is done?

Yes. We take cleanup seriously. We’re a “New Roof, No Mess” contractor, and we stand by that.

At Paramount Roofing Systems, we use the Uplifter Roofing Debris Management System, which safely lifts and contains all old roofing materials before they ever hit the ground. That means no mess in your yard, landscaping, or driveway.

After install, we also:

  • Perform a full magnetic nail sweep around the property

  • Clean up all debris, trash, and packaging

  • Do a final walkaround to ensure your property is spotless

We know how important it is to protect your home, kids, pets, and vehicles - so we go above and beyond to leave your space just as clean (or cleaner!) than when we arrived.

We know how important safety is, especially if you have kids, pets, or tires to protect. While we do our absolute best, we always recommend keeping an eye out for a few days just in case any hidden nails turn up - we’re happy to come back if needed.

At Paramount Roofing Systems, we believe that a clean jobsite is part of a job well done.

What happens if it rains while you’re working on the roof?

If rain is in the forecast, we plan accordingly to protect your home.

At Paramount Roofing Systems, we closely monitor weather conditions and will not start your roof if there’s a risk of heavy rain that day. Your roof is too important to risk.

If unexpected rain pops up while we’re mid-project:

  • We immediately cover exposed areas with heavy-duty waterproof tarps

  • Our crews are trained to act fast and protect your home from water intrusion

  • Work resumes only once it's 100% safe and dry to continue

Your home’s protection is our top priority. With Paramount Roofing Systems, you're in the hands of a team that’s prepared, experienced, and always puts your roof - and your peace of mind - first.

What kind of warranty comes with my roof?

At Paramount Roofing Systems, we stand behind every roof we install with both a manufacturer’s warranty and our own workmanship warranty.

Check out our warranties page or speak to your project manager for a full breakdown based on the type of roof you are getting from us.

What’s the difference between your warranty and the manufacturer’s warranty?

The difference comes down to what’s covered and who’s responsible.

Our Workmanship Warranty

This covers how the roof was installed. If there's a leak, issue, or problem caused by an installation error within your warranty period - we fix it.

Manufacturer’s Warranty

This covers the roofing materials themselves, like shingles, metal panels or underlayment. If the products are defective (e.g., premature cracking, granule loss, or blistering not caused by weather or improper install), the manufacturer will cover repairs or replacements - typically for 25 to 50 years, depending on the product and registration.

Think of it this way:

  • We cover the craftsmanship.

  • The manufacturer covers the materials.

And because we’re certified installers with top brands, many of our roofs qualify for extended manufacturer warranties that go beyond the basics.
